Protective gloves are an important part of the standard personal protective equipment law enforcement and corrections officers should wear to avoid risks from blood-borne pathogens, including hepatitis or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); from sharp-edged weapons such as knives or razor blades; and from pointed weapons such as hypodermic needles. There are a number of gloves on the market that claim to offer various levels of protection against some or all of these threats.
