These are the treacherous conditions soldiers and emergency workers face as they try to get a grip on making China's devastated towns and villages safe. And after the multiple threats of aftershocks, landslides and the so called "quake lakes" formed by trapped rivers following May's earthquake, there is the new threat of disease. Here in Beichuan, one of the worst hit towns, quake lake water has been allowed to flood through to release pressure from a bulging blocked river. Now authorities worry that decomposed and undiscovered bodies in the water could result in heavy pollution and sanitation issues. Soldiers have been sent in to disinfect the entire area.
